Quarried from our Cotton Thomas & Fish Creek Quarries – Moulton, Idaho, Storm Mountain quartzite comes from one of the most respected quartzite-producing regions in the country. This is real, high-elevation stone formed under pressure and time for demanding climates and serious installs.

Storm Mountain carries cool charcoal, steel gray, and soft silver tones with subtle natural mica that adds depth without glare. It’s architectural. Grounded. Clean without feeling cold.

This product is available in two formats designed to match scale and application:

1"–3" WaterWashed Minis

These thicker patio pieces are naturally washed and softened, creating slightly rounded edges and a more relaxed visual flow. They’re ideal for informal patios, garden pathways, stepping stone layouts, and tighter installations where large-format slabs aren’t practical. The result is movement and texture that feels intentional rather than rigid, a surface that looks settled into the landscape instead of placed on top of it.

½"–1" Decorative

This thinner format is lighter and more versatile, making it well-suited for overlay applications, accent zones, light-traffic patios, and design transitions where elevation matters. It allows you to bring the cool, architectural tone of Storm Mountain into spaces that can’t support heavier stone, without sacrificing durability or visual cohesion.

Storm Mountain Decorative & Minis are a Surface or a FInish product when you Build It Right.™

These formats give you flexibility in design, but the system stays the same.

Because it’s quarry-direct from Moulton, Idaho, you get reliable regional sourcing, proven freeze-thaw performance, consistent quartzite density, and long-term availability you can plan around. Idaho quartzite has a known track record in Mountain West conditions.

Storm Mountain pairs naturally with clean-lined fire features, structured drystack accents, natural boulder transitions, and modern xeriscape plant palettes that let the cool tones do the talking without overpowering the space.

Q: What’s the difference between Minis and Decorative?
A: Minis (1"–3") are thicker structural patio pieces with softened, water-washed edges. Decorative (½"–1") is thinner and lighter, ideal for overlays or lighter-use applications.

Q: Is Storm Mountain quartzite durable in freeze-thaw climates?
A: Yes. Quartzite from this Idaho region is known for its density and weather resistance, making it ideal for Mountain West environments.

Q: Does the mica affect traction?
A: No. The mica adds subtle visual depth without compromising surface grip.

Q: Do smaller stones still require proper base prep? A: Absolutely. Proper base preparation is critical for long-term performance and preventing shifting or settling.
